OATS KUZHAKATTAI
Here i am after keeping aside all my laziness writing up another post.
This post is about oats. We all are aware about the benefits of oats.
I was not a huge fan of oats neither i felt like eating them before once when i tried oats kanji( porridge) with salt and curd. Ever since, i love oats and its versatility as an ingredient plus the health benefits. Oatmeal is a whole grain which helps us fight many diseases like type 2 diabetes, blood pressure. Also it lowers cholestrol and is a good source of fiber.
My husband who is not at all a fan of kozhakattai or oats ate it without any fuss. Apparently he dint even realise its oats... I was happy
This recipe is inspired from PADHUSKITCHEN.
Here we go.

- Carrot - 1 grated
- Green chilli - 1 chopped
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Chana Dal - 1 tsp
- Urad Dal - 1 tsp
- Hing - a pinch
- curry leaves - 1 spring
- Salt - to taste
- Crushed pepper - 1/2 tsp ( optional)
- Oil - 1 Tbsp
PROCEDURE:
- Roast the oats a little and grind it as a flour.
- In a Kadhai, add oil and once hot add the mustard, channa dal and urad dal, hing and curry leaves and allow it to crackle.
- Add the green chilli and carrot and let it cook well.
- Once the carrot is cooked well add the oats to it mix well with salt and pepper.Add a little water to cook the oats well. (I used a little less than 1/2 cup of water).
- Once cooked well let it cool a little. After it cools down a little make oval balls and steam for about 10 to 12 minutes in idly cooker or steamer.
- Serve hot with chutney of your choice or ketchup.
Note:
1. Be careful while you make balls as the mixture might be hot.
2.Avoid over steaming.
